
Sterilization of low-acid drinks
Low-acid drinks, such as canned soft drinks, represent a particular challenge for sterilization technology. The application is technically straight-forward however the industry requires extremely high production levels, often in excess of 1,000 cans per minute, which can only be achieved economically using the most sophisticated sterilization and handling technology.
Low-acid drinks must be sterilized in static retorts. Our static retorts are available in a wide range of sizes and models to fit any application. Retort diameters range from 1.2m to 2.5m and the length can be anything from 2m to 8m depending on the duty cycle of the application. This allows you to choose retorts to match your production requirements and to add additional equipment as the requirement expands. Safe Sterilization Management (SSM) keeps you in control and provides full track and trace capabilities to conform to all international requirements.
Keeping the sterilization time as short as possible, while ensuring that every part of every can has received the necessary heat treatment, is a fundamental part of the process. Keeping the processing time short preserves the look and taste of the product and helps you to meet the demands of your high-throughput production schedules.
